Because Every Child Matters...

President’s Message

President Sanjog

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Sanjog is experiencing another year of tremendous progress in the field of child protection. The organization was founded in June 2006, initially to coordinate action of 12 partner organizations all over Pakistan. However, quickly after, need was felt to take more initiatives and implement projects to protect most vulnerable children.

Sanjog focuses on minor population which is disintegrated from mainstream society such as runaway children, street children, delinquent juveniles, children from ethnic-religious minorities, extremely poor children in rag-picking and survivors of human trafficking. The reintegration (union) of these children with mainstream society defines the word Sanjog.

Sanjog's executive body comprises of 7 members chaired by its president. Sanjog's Director (appointed by the board) provides directions to program management. The organization is registered as Non-Governmental Organization in Pakistani under Societies Registration Act Of 1860. Since 2009, Sanjog enjoys NPO status (non-profit organization) from Federal Government under Income tax ordinance of 2001.

It is important to note that Sanjog's programs and projects are implemented in the context of United Nations' Convention on the Rights of Child (UN-CRC). The organization takes the guidelines for its initiatives from the said convention that is ratified by almost all countries of the world except two nations. The organization struggles to reduce the gap between theory and practice in this regard through lobbying, awareness raising and capacity building of concerned stakeholders.

For better implementation of JJSO 2000 and for child friendly legislation Legal Aid Program also plays a pivotal role, through awareness raising seminars and dissemination of IEC material. Further having consultative meetings with Bar and Bench for advocating the rights of the children. Being a strong member of National Juvenile Justice Network, Sanjog lobbies with the Government functionaries and civil society for protection of the rights of juveniles.

I, on the behalf of Sanjog's board of directors, express my gratitude to our implementing partners, donors and communities for joining hands with us to protect the most vulnerable segment of our society, the children. Person by person, community by community, we look forward to many more years of working with you.

Zubair Tahir
